Okinawa, Your Way: Kouri Island, Coastal Stops & Time at Your Resort

Sea views on the way. Resort time when you return.

Plan my Okinawa journey

An Okinawa escape should leave time for the hotel you chose. Build one day around a few coastal places, then keep another for a slow breakfast, a swim or simply doing less.

For travellers staying on Okinawa’s main island, Kouri Island can be the focus of a scenic outing. It is connected by bridge to Yagaji Island, which is linked to the main island by road. You can discuss a road-based visit without adding a ferry crossing.

Make the coastline the experience

Choose one main destination, a place for lunch and a small number of stops along the way. A private car can connect the places you select, while giving your group a shared pickup and return plan.

Enjoy the bridge views from appropriate visitor areas. Plan photo stops with your driver rather than asking to stop on the bridge itself, and keep your schedule flexible around the conditions that day.

Plan from your resort, not just the map

The exact location of your hotel matters. A northern outing looks different when you start in Naha than when you are already staying farther north. Send the operator your hotel name and preferred return time before choosing how much to include.

Travelling with children? Mention naps, stroller space and child-seat requirements. For a multigenerational group, ask about walking distances and convenient drop-off points at the places you want to visit.

Leave an afternoon unplanned

Our recommendation is to preserve some resort time rather than fill every day with driving. Ask your hotel about beach or pool access and any experiences you need to reserve separately.

Keep airport transfers distinct from sightseeing requests. Include your flight and luggage details, then confirm whether any stops can realistically fit the arrival or departure day.

Start with our Japan private car collection. This guide covers a main-island road trip; visits to other Okinawan islands require their own transport planning.
